Taxonomía Bacteriana
Los objetivos de investigación se focalizan en los ámbitos de la Taxonomía Bacteriana y de la Microbiología en Salud Pública:
• Asignación taxonómica bacteriana de especies emergentes, inusuales, de difícil identificación implicadas en infección humana
• Descripción de nuevas especies
• Estudio de la biología poblacional bacteriana mediante diferentes técnicas de tipificación: genes conservados (gyrB, secA, rpoB, tuf, etc), MLST (Multilocus sequence typing), MLVA ( Multiple Locus Variable-number Tandem Repeat Analysis) y/o secuenciación de genoma completo
• Epidemiología de la resistencia frente a antimicrobianos y factores de virulencia para determinados patógenos bacterianos en diferentes escenarios nosocomial/comunitario.
Estos objetivos se abordan desde la perspectiva de la taxonomía polifásica (taxonomía feno- y genotípica) combinada con el estudio del genoma completo para la asignación de género/especie y análisis filogenéticos. Conjuntamente se realizan análisis de viruloma y resistoma para determinadas especies bacterianas (ver publicaciones) y para contextos de brote en Salud Pública.
La investigación de la infección invasiva por Streptococcus pyogenes y otros estreptococos beta-hemolíticos, se realiza a través del Programa de Vigilancia del Centro Nacional de Microbiología con el estudio de los linajes circulantes en nuestro país.

• Estudio del entorno taxonómico, de virulencia y resistencia a antimicrobianos de bacterias anaerobias multirresistentes de interés clínico.
• Filogenia, caracterización de mecanismos moleculares de resistencia y plataformas genéticas en Nocardia spp y géneros afines.
• Streptococcus pyogenes: elementos genéticos móviles protagonistas en la evolución de serotipos pandémicos M1 y M89 causantes de infecciones invasivas.
• Identificación de los genotipos circulantes en España de Brucella melitensis y de nuevas líneas clonales.
• Caracterización genética de las neurotoxinas responsables de botulismo humano en España.

Los objetivos de investigación se focalizan en los ámbitos de la Taxonomía Bacteriana y de la Microbiología en Salud Pública:

- Epidemiología de la resistencia frente a antimicrobianos y factores de virulencia para determinados patógenos bacterianos en diferentes escenarios nosocomial/comunitario.
Estos objetivos se abordan desde la perspectiva de la taxonomía polifásica (taxonomía fenotípica y genotípica) mediante del estudio de dianas para la asignación de género/especie y análisis filogenéticos. El análisis del viruloma y resistoma de determinadas especies se aborda desde la perspectiva de la secuenciación de genomas completos.
La investigación de la infección invasiva por Streptococcus pyogenes y otros estreptococos beta-hemolíticos, se realiza desde 1994, a través del Programa de Vigilancia del Centro Nacional de Microbiología.
